A single line is projected - a horizon
The poems below are displayed through four projections producing
a continuous in a 10m wide composition by the artist, in which is seen
how the text of each language occupies the territory of the page differently.
Philip Gross reads
Spoor
Philips poem Spoor was written in response to the commissioned journey across Europe from Cardiff to Amsterdam by train.
A reciprocal journey was made Tsead in which bed & grave was written.
The journey and commissioning was designed by Glenn and Alexis and Translation Studies students then translated the works into 16 languages.
Tsead Bruinja reads

...before which he supprised us all by reading a new poem he had been commissioned to write and had finished, using references to a story by Glenn about his experience working in Japan.
A reading by Tsead of the Second Original of his commissioned poem bed & grave written in Fresian, his mother tongue, he had writtin his first original in English for this event.

A new autopoietic work of second originals, based around words by Philip Gross from his commissioned poem Spoor for TransEuropa Festival - a travelling poem - a generator framework devised by Glenn Davidson and the real-time translation over the TXT2 system by Alexis and his students.

Philip Gross and Tsead Bruinja at TransEuropa

Digital art accompanies performance of especially commissioned works by T.S. Eliot Prize winner Philip Gross and Amsterdam-based poet Tsead Bruinja, works composed as they made exchange journeys between each other’s cities. Further versions of the poems have been produced by a team of translators under Professor Alexis Nuselovici at the School of European Studies, University of Cardiff, with the resulting texts, sounds and images offering a unique exploration of movement, translation, translatio, and displacement.
The performance will be accompanied by Artstations's interactive TXT2EU art process, which celebrates language and meaning through an evening of improvisation and language games. TXT2 is a series of works by Glenn Davidson of Artstation and collaborators from Cardiff University School of Computer Science and Informatics and BBC Big Screens. The work illuminates dynamic cultural processes in relation to buildings and places. It is a participatory work, in which people use their mobile phones as a creative medium to anonymously publish and share in real-time.
TransEuropa Festival is both a cultural festival and a political event, coordinated by European Alternatives and organised by a team of over 50 activists, writers, thinkers, and artists from throughout the continent. This year the Festival is taking place in 12 European cities simultaneously: Edinburgh, London, Cardiff, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Prague, Bologna, Bratislava, Sofia, Lublin, Cluj-Napoca. It is a truly transnational festival, not twelve different festivals at the same time, but one festival throughout Europe promoting democracy, equality and culture beyond the nation state.
