Arising Nature

In May 2007, Artstation were commissioned by Science Shops(SSW) to create community participation for a biodiversity study (A survey of plants and animals) .Artstation began a research period by asking groups what was important in Cwmaman.

Community mapping was undertaken download a powerpoint.

Human life became part of the biodiversity survey and a complex community relationship emerged surrounding the Shepherds Arms Freehouse. Intriguing stories were told, many concerning the oldest public house in the village which was under threat of closure and possible demolition.

The importance of the building to Cwmaman could no be ignored. Though this caused may difficulties in the community, creation of the paper installation at St Josephs bought into focus many issues surrounding. It became a process of contemplation and imaging the gravitation, attraction repulsion and shepherding forces acting upon the free house Shepherds Arms The installation is a composition of these forces composed as a cosmic metaphor - the interplay of satellites found in the rings surrounding planet Saturn carry the names of the Greek Gods Pan, Prometheus and Pandora.
