Locomotion, 1984

Kinetic participatory performance installation exploring visual perception.

A high point of this work was a visit from R.L. Gregory the famous perception research scientist at Bristol University. He wrote the following:

"...This is an imaginative and exciting venture, allowing people to experience their own processes of perception. We are used to a stable world, where most things are predictable, but in earthquakes or the culture shock of a strange new environment, our usual assumptions break down – this can be traumatic. Live Supports Locomotion shows we normally have the support of familiar life around us. In this revolving world we feel strange and lost. But the lesson is we discover ourselves through new experiences…”

Locomotion was presented at the Possibility of Impossible Worlds conference in Amsterdam University in1987. The following year we became resident artists for the Social Systems research group (OOC/CICT) directed by Professor Gerard De Zeeuw.
